Do the guys live in the path of totality of this month’s upcoming solar eclipse? I’d love to see their reaction to the stars coming out in a dark sky in the middle of the day. Last time I was present for such a moment I was in Piedmont Park in Atlanta. The sparrows and pigeons all collected in their roosting trees and went to sleep. And that wasn’t even technically a total eclipse because the earth and moon were closer together in their orbits so that even though the entire moon passed in front of the solar disk, there was still a glowing rim around it. If I remember right, that’s called an annular eclipse.

I once read an item that said that if aliens ever land on earth, they will come to the conclusion that carts are solar powered.

This is absolutely spot on. I love the expressions on Elvis’ face, and the changing poses. We have multiple window shelves so the boys can get sun all day.

The Venerable Boris used to do this. One day, at age 17, the sun puddle moved and he didn’t. Pretty nice way to go, if you ask me.

It was observed by my Dad after a long cat-sitting episode that the rug by the front door was always furry though he couldn’t see why as there was nothing of interest there. I replied that it was where the sun struck through the kitchen window in the afternoon (and only place of direct sunlight into the house due to the blinds in the other windows) and so was always occupied by napping cats. Like Elvis, the boys are annoyed at the moving sunbeam. I think that’s why they like going out on the back deck so much, hours of delightful sun to enjoy – I even have chairs out just for them to sleep in

Quite the opposite from being woken up by hot hot flashes.

I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that cats (yes, the domestic ones too) actually originated in Africa, and joined humans as they migrated and spread throughout the world. That’s why they, especially tabbys like the warm feeling under the sun. Whatever I said may not be accurate, but I remember reading something like that… In old houses, which didn’t have cooking gas stoves, the cats loved to sleep in the warm ashes of the fireplace above which cooking was carried on (when the fire wasn’t burning, of course).

Our cats start the morning by lying at the patio door. (east) Then the move to the guest bedroom. (south) After that, it’s the afternoon sun by the front door. (west)

@Hevi ??? He is inside the house — the sun is coming in through a window and shining on the floor.

Often when I see a big patch of sunlight on the floor, I think: there should be a cat in it. Even if I’m at someone else’s house! There’s just something so right about a kitty in the sunshine.
