The Republican priorities are to give corporations and billionaires tax breaks and to give more money to the military so they can use it as a club to force the world to do what they want. That is how you make debt.
We have to raise taxes and close loopholes. Kansas got spanked by reality. More accurately, the republicans in Kansas were slapped, slammed, and spanked by the hard facts of reality.
Now Kansas does not issue fiat money, so it’s different from a country in that respect. But it is trust in America’s word and our values that makes the USD the world’s reserve currency. Pathetic trump is eroding that global trust significantly every single day. There’s no replacement for the dollar just yet, but if we keep up the trumpian nonsense and lying, others will eclipse us, perhaps in a currency basket approach.
US federal taxes are already low in comparison to other developed economies, so we could raise them selectively without a problem. That’s just responsible public policy. i would cut the war department budget over a 20 year period as well, shifting those resources into early education and childcare, scientific research (especially basic research), smart infrastructure, reduction of carbon emissions, and other pro-human expenses.
Someone needs to explain something very simple to ALL politicians, but MOSTLY Republicans; “If you SPEND MORE then you TAKE IN, you WILL go Bankrupt.” Period. Just ask Herr Drumpf, he did it 4 times…
We only have one graduate level economist in Congress now, I believe. That’s sort of like bringing your car to the local trade school to have the engine overhauled instead of bringing to a licensed mechanic. A couple sessions ago some competent representatives wrote an algorithm that would balance the budget, but that session of Congress did not understand it, so it was discarded … we get the government we deserve.
Perhaps when we get some self-respect for government we’ll stop playing partisan games and vote in some competent people who will work for ‘we the people’ instead of corporations and the wealthy.
Trump has already spent more time away in seven months than President Obama spent in eight years. It’s a darned good thing Trump said he’d be too busy working to take a vacation.
Although, considering the mess he’s made, “not working” is probably safer than having him in the White House.
It’s always been a mystery to me – those who said we needed a businessman as President, and then they chose someone who’s been bankrupt several times and sued countless times for stiffing contractors and vendors.
Lisa Benson, what would you cut to meaningfully shrink that? I suspect that the Military, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid make up a big portion of what we spend. So let us know what YOU would cut. You have a plan…..right?

Maybe we should cut back on the Secret Service.
And maybe cut down on presidential vacations.

I certainly agree, all of Lisa’s cartoons are offensive and ought to come down.

Given a full four years, Trump and the Republicans will double that, just in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The statue should be an elephant as the GOP has driven this deficit for years!

So now we know that Lisa thinks the debt is obscene but she doesn’t blink at murder/terrorism.

I am sure the debt the Republicans are ringing up are more offensive than racism to most Republicans.

Using GOP logic the solution to the giant pig is to make it bigger with more tax cuts to the 1%

I used to support the Republican party in hope of reducing the debt, but it’s clear now that their only intent is to use it as a complaint about Obama
If you want fiscal responsibility, stop talking about dumping 21 billion dollars of concrete across the desert.
