Sounds like my childhood, but we hardly ever had dessert anyway. Now I rarely watch TV, and going to bed early is a treat.

Truth is, Mom’s pretty happy any day that Alice does something that justifies no TV and getting her out of her hair early.
Mom started the whole thing by putting the “everything is new” idea in her head.
She’s got alibis…
Alice is being punished for teasing Dill and making him cry. Bad behavior, there are no alibis/excuses for that … totally justified punishment. The severity could be open to discussion/debate, though …
So, Madeline has sentenced Alice to super Hard Time! I hope it’s rehabilitative, but from Alice I expect recidivism….
