    Capitalism is dead.

Sure, we have a few Mom and Pop kinda places doing business. Usually under the cover of some corporation. A few restaurants. My rural county is full of tanning salons, dog groomers and liquor stores. That’s all the capitalism we have left. Ah, I forgot our beloved family farmers, hanging on by their finger nails, trying to live from one season to the next.

What many CALL capitalism is actually CORPORATISM. We live in a world where corporations such as Walmart, Dollar General and McDonalds each have more wealth and power than most states and many countries.

Decisions are not made for the good of the small business owner. They are made to promote wealth in the already obscenely wealthy.

How did you think that I was proposing a return the halcyon days of NEVER WERE? I’m a revolutionary my friend. No, not a communist, not even a socialist. More of a pragmatist.

We live in a Republic where we have VERY little contact with our elected representatives. We have little to no voice. I would demand a Constitutional convention, if I weren’t scared to my core that what we’d get would be even worse.

I have seen the community “decision making” process in action, and it’s a good way to get what the people in charge have already decided we’ll get.

You got me reading about the Shah. You’re right, we did some profoundly stupid things during the 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s….oh heck, we’re always doing something profoundly stupid somewhere. Maybe that’s how we should elect our leaders, “Who does the fewest stupid things?”

You could probably push the situation in Iran back much further. Remember, they are Persians practicing Islam, a religion forced on to them by invaders. Many Persians around the world practice Zoroastrianism. Persians don’t even speak Arabic, the only “true” language of the Prophet. Think about if Christians still worshiped in Latin.

And ours were made of dinosaur bones. You’ll find very few of the type you describe around nowadays, especially on public schools.

When we lived in San Angelo there was a city park near the apartments we lived in, across the street from Tom Green County library. It was a FANTASTIC playground, our kids spent many happy hours there.

And the swings were just as you described.

I think we’re talking about two different wages here, bakana. I’m talking about the federal minimum wage, $7.25 an hour. It also happens to be the state minimum wage here.

I was at McDonald’s today. They are BEGGING to hire people and are offering just about TWICE the federal/state minimum wage.

Google says that McDonalds employed about 150,000 people in 2023. Those 34,000 of yours are probably all in California.

Your lawsuit was started in 2013, my friend. Only 11 years ago, but it was still an entirely different world.

Not because you were innocent, but because you are rich.

Where were the protests when we invaded Iraq?

The invasion of Iraq was clearly unjust and illegal. Why have we never prosecuted Bush and his people?

Where were the protests when we tortured prisoners and imprisoned them for decades?

Gitmos is a stain that will remain on our national soul forever.

Where were the protests when we bungled Afghanistan and squandered any good we could have done there?

Instead of bringing Afghanistan closer to the West we restored the Taliban and abandoned those who supported us.

We needed those protests a long time ago. We need them now. We need a voice that at least makes us stop and think and wonder, “Are we doing the right thing?”

I hope that one day Elias takes a look at the national epidemic of mental illness the American people are suffering together.

American culture is mentally ill. We are suffering massive PTSD. As a nation we make poor decisions. We are both childish and immature. We allow ourselves to be led by the unfit, the unqualified and the unstable.

It used to be that Patriotism was enough to unite us. Now that has been subverted into a twisted lie tying us to immoral, selfish monsters.

It used to be that religion was a connection we shared. We didn’t all worship the same way, but we shared a common spirituality. Now a force of Evangelical supremacy is growing, threatening to tear us apart.

Republicans and Democrats used to share the belief that the important thing was to “get things done”. Now all they want to do is “win”.

The American Dream of family, home and career is being destroyed. There is no stability that we can build upon. Our hopes and dreams consist of making it to the end of the month. We don’t invest in the future. We spend to satisfy ourselves now.

We are no longer people. We are merely a commodity to make the rich and wealthy richer and more wealthy.

Trump did not become a Republican. The Republican party became Trump.

I have good friends I highly respect who are Republicans. Trump is nothing like them.
