   Roger Mahoney has put too much of his own stamp on today’s strip. I prefer Garnett and Goldsmith’s more authentic ‘Smythe’ style work.

   I prided myself on duplicating the great man’s style to the best of my abilities but regrettably my contributions were cancelled.

   What gag there is

   is completely ruined by both the artist and the colourist.

   Firstly the artist has drawn an apron in the first panel and dungarees in the second.

   This seems to have confused the colourist who seems to have assumed the decorator has taken a non existant apron off in the blink of an eye.

   Shocking.

   The editor of the Daily Mirror was happy to commission me to produce a strip once a month but Mahoney, Goldsmith and Garnett kyboshed it.

   Andy’s come backs lack the dry humour of the classics.

   Smythe would have written something like;

   “…ignore her lad, she stubbed her toe getting of bed this mornin’.”

    Very good except for one important detail.
