As far as his ability to read…. It is suggested you read my comment again…. he HAS alluded to not being able to read, yet I believe it is more of a ruse than reality and stalwort Joel has folks be dismissive of his aptitudes in order to better read their unglossed attitudes and personalities.

As far as drinking, again… never even a hint of being excessive…. No indication of any drunkenness, nor loss of abilities. You simply need to accept that some folks can enjoy a wee bit of alcohol and not be alcoholics.

A person ecologically attuned firmly believes in recycling. He lives in a recycling yard, because he is committed to the notion of “return, reuse, and recycle”. What is there to fault in that?

And, on several “Tiny House” shows, the landscape is not always a pristine “oasis” but is what can be afforded. Joel does not have a lot of cash, nor does he choose to mortgage himself into risky debt. Why fault a man who lives within his means? His demeanor, his kindness and treatment towards others, and his efforts to help others…. our society does not always pay a man his true worth. It is a sad conundrum. Joel is quite poor monetarily, but he is rich in a life of service to others.

Yes it is interesting. Not random, and comments are what, meant to be affirmations of tranquility and harmony and blessings? Surely, you can identify that it is your comment that is truly “amusing”.

  3. about 15 hours ago on Luann

Yet… I tend to think that there are SOME of us prior fans of both characters who are shifting our opinion of BOTH Bets and Tiffany (raising hand).

  4. about 15 hours ago on Luann

Woah! You have sort of “nailed it”…. this rambling arc DOES have a Mary Worth-esque “continuum” AND an Alley Oop (modern version) rudeness and inanity to it.

  5. about 16 hours ago on Gasoline Alley

Nah…. Joel is a wise, somewhat older (yet robust) fellow with a few minor “quirks” acquired across a lifespan of living a good life of service for others. I still doubt he is actually illiterate, although he may occasionally suggest something of that nature…. perhaps in a low-key fashion to better understand the actual intent others may have in a given situation. Our professorial Joel does enjoy a drink on occasion, but there is no indication he indulges excessively in any way. I do not recall ever seeing him even overly tipsy. There is no harm in a fellow enjoying a drink once in a while. Joel prefers to lead a simpler life, and it happens to be rather in vogue in many ways these days as well. His “shack” as you call it, is really pretty much a “tiny home” which is all the rage these days if watching television programs on HGTV is any indication. He was far ahead of the curve on that manner of thinking, and perhaps was even the progenitor of the movement. As for living with a donkey…. who could fault a fellow who takes care of his pets so? In the award winning film, “The Banshees of Inisherin” one of the lead characters has a pet donkey who often lives inside the lead fellow’s modest Irish home.

So… with all the above qualities, I do sincerely feel that our pipe-smoking, convivial, jovial, and ever-professorial sage, Joel, could EASILY handle a solo arc with much aplomb, grace, and good form.

Joel would be a wonderful focus for the arc. He needs a SOLO feature, though. Rufus can stay home.

  7. about 18 hours ago on Mutt & Jeff

Jeff MUST have accidentally hit the switch on the hat from “memory” mode to “forget” mode while passing the hat to Mutt.

  8. about 18 hours ago on Nancy

Oh oh…. this looks REALLY bad for Nancy. Currently the only one “sympatico” with her appears to be PeeWee, and that is literally (pun intended) quite dangerous.

  9. about 18 hours ago on Luann

And…. I had previously felt positive about both Bets and Tiffany. But, that is changing.

  10. about 18 hours ago on Luann

I am feeling a bit frustrated now.

I HAD thought this arc would have concluded this past Saturday…. and at that time, even though it was NOT a favorite arc….. I felt good about the idea that Luann remained true to herself and was not bamboozled by “Batubs”.

Then, come Monday, and the arc continues….. I was (incorrectly) presuming that AT LEAST the arc would now lay off of Luann. But….. NO. Unfortunately, the now, “non-dynamic duo” of “Batubs” is scheming again on new ways to “fix” Luann.

Bets and Tiffany as characters are both now QUITE insulting, IMO. I am not sure what G & K’s plan is here…. but…. to my manner of thinking…. they are coaxing us (at least ME) into thinking of both Bets and Tiffany as annoying on the level of Stephanie.
