Gotcha. As a pragmatist myself, I’m watching another “time of the people” come into reality/being. With the web, anybody anywhere can complain, comment, discuss, etc. You may remember that the French Revolution was also a time of the people, and they didn’t act any better than the aristos. BUT they did initiate change. ( And, really, “the people” are little better at governing than the politicos.)

We CAN have contact with our representatives, but we have to go after them—something most people have neither the time nor the interest to do. I sure don’t want to picket anymore, or protest—did that 60 years ago—and changes happened. Changes are happening again—some positive, some negative.

Theoretically, I agree with much of what you said. As a culture, we are brash, arrogant, adolescent, and self-centered. We CAN be generous and self-deprecating. Capitalism is hardly dead: the guys at the top get more and more, and the rest of us get less and less.

Depends on my mood as to whether I think we’re headed for hell or betterment. My friends and i discuss this a lot, and we ALWAYS come to the conclusion that we know best, and could fix everything if given the chance. "Our motto is: “It’s tough being perfect, but SOMEBODY’S gotta do it.” ;)

    Okay, but . . . going back isn’t an option . . . “traditional” isn’t any better. . .

NO, they aren’t. Under Biden, the republican party can try to rebuild itself. Under Biden, women can work toward reproductive freedom. Under Biden, positive changes in all areas can still be worked toward. Under Biden, the political process CAN be turned over to the younger generations. Under tfg, ALL forward progress will be curtailed while he gets “revenge,”. . . and there will be NOT turning anything over to another generation.

GAWD! Biden’s off-the cuff remarks were just GREAT—-funny, pointed, and quick! Comparing his speeches to tfg’s ALWAYS reinforces just how much more of everything Joe has—brains, humor, knowledge, empathy. GO, JOE!
