I took a quarter of typing in high school — mid-70s, so no computers yet. I had my eyes set on a journalism career, so I knew typing was essential. I got to know my way around the keyboard, fell in love with the IBM Selectric, and never got good at real touch typing. Now that I’ve been in computers for 40 years, I probably have pretty decent typing speed, but if anyone tries to test me I’ll probably revert back to hunting and pecking.
