You are missing the point. It’s not about desecration of the flag, it is about the perception of fairness under the law. There are definitely times when flying an inverted flag is appropriate. HOWEVER, Alito (or his wife) did this at the time when it was understood to carry a “stop the steal” message – despite there being no evidence of election fraud. As a Supreme Court Justice he MUST be conscious of the partisan message he was sending sent. Even if his wife was the one who actually raised the flag, allowing it to remain made his partisanship obvious to all. And now he, along with that other blatantly right-wing ideologue Thomas, will refuse to recuse himself from J6 and immunity-related cases. It would be one thing if there were ANY evidence of systemic election interference, but there is none, even though tRumpty Dumbty and his gang have had three years to produce any. The notion of fairness in the current Extreme Court is a joke, it’s Little Donnie’s court and he’s making good use of it.
