Good point. I should start doing that myself. But judging from the number of trollish featured comments, either they don’t always get flagged, or the flags don’t result in the comments being removed.

As for the origins of covid, the only thing that matters is what the actual experts (i.e., epidemiologists and those in related fields) say, not what the media, politicians and self-proclaimed experts on the Internet claim. The last time I checked, while there is still a great deal that is uncertain (thanks in part to the refusal of the Chinese government to be forthcoming), most experts are of the opinion that a natural origin is far more likely than any kind of lab leak (and in any case, Dr. Fauci’s links to that particular lab are extremely tenuous, and no more than would be expected, seeing that as that field’s foremost scientist in a government position, he had connections to labs all over the world).

Yes, it was the featured comment because I deliberately replied to myself enough times to displace the troll’s comment with the conspiracy theory. That you actually find the troll’s comment credible just shows that you are part of that same ecosystem.

Even more laughable is claim that I am spouting conspiracy theories. In this particular instance, it is particularly absurd, as my own comment didn’t present any theories, hypotheses, or comments on current or past events of any sort. And the idea that I am a Chinese paid troll is almost as ridiculous as calling the Dalai Lama (who I have met) a Chinese paid troll. As a supporter of Taiwanese independence, freedom for Tibet and East Turkestan, and the Hong Kong democracy movement, I’m as likely to take on Chinese trolls as MAGA trolls. But both of you have a lot in common, first and foremost being a tendency to spout nonsense that has little or no relationship to reality, as your little list illustrates.

But GoComics clearly favors “engagement” (even if that means conflict) over someone just making a comment that a lot of people like.

Of course, if the featured comment was the one with the most likes, this wouldn’t be an issue.

Which is a bit of hassle, especially if the troll has already received multiple responses.

But the only way to replace the troll’s comment as the featured comment is to have another one with even more replies.

And the featured comment shouldn’t be one that’s spouting some kind of conspiracy theory.

Because if you do, they get the featured comment.

Like someone said above, don’t feed the trolls.
