I’m sure they did. Just because a healthy adult human can survive a wet widow bite without antivenom doesn’t mean they should try it. according to the book The Red Hourglass Lives of the Predators by Gordon Grice and wikipedia Allan Blair M.D. from the University of Alabama got himself bitten by a widow to prove to skeptics that widow venom was dangerous. It nearly killed him and he had to spend 2 days in a hospital but he recovered fully. Those that do die from widow bites are usually children or the old and or infirm. Or those that are allergic.
I heard that the Black Widow is the more venomous of the two. But you can survive a venom fillled widow bite without antivenom. I wouldn’t recommend it though.
