    A crummy commercial?

Extremely HOT gossip in the end if you go through the rest of life thinking of it only that way.

In Michigan there are fishflies (just google “fishflies in Grosse Pointe” and see some of the links and even videos that come up). They’re harmless, and they’re only around for a few days, but they’re a massive invasion – and unlike cicadas, they’re an EVERY YEAR event.

Nope, Michigan. And as one who used to live there I can attest. It’s the number one reason I moved to Arizona. No more guessing – and usually being incorrect – about the number of layers required. Nope, for at least 5 months of the year I can go out every morning without even checking the forecast or looking out the window first – in just shoes, socks, and the absolute minimum the law requires. For the rest, usually just one layer, either short or long (and I really, REALLY hate the “long layer” season. Fortunately it’s relatively short. Especially in comparison to Michigan’s at-least-4-1/2-months of winter).

AMEN! Same at my school in the SEVENTIES! I think the only things more popular than Sloppy Joes were pizza and (POSSIBLY) tacos. (The cafeteria staff hated Taco Days because they were so much more work to prepare – and the downside for the students was that the line moved much more slowly because EVERYBODY always got the tacos and it took a while for the cafeteria ladies to put them together). I STILL make and eat “Sloppys” at home sometimes, except they’re a healthier version made with lean ground turkey – so they’re Sloppy Toms.

I don’t even remember either of those either! I read this daily but maybe old age is creeping up on me and my memory is getting more short-term! Horrors! :O

THANK YOU! Wow – a measly one-week arc? No wonder he was so forgettable. I’m surprised so many people remembered him!

I remember that’s what Dear Abby and/or Ann Landers used to say.

In the late 80s when banks were paying super-high interest, the Discover card, which was new on the scene in those days, had a deal where they offered cash advances at some percentage – can’t remember what it was, but it’s irrelevant because the maximum charge for the cash advance was capped at $10. Every month on the day after the billing cut-off date, I’d get a cash advance of my total credit line and deposit it into my high-interest bank account. (Back in those days it involved writing a check against the Discover account and then depositing that check with a teller at the bank). Then the advance wouldn’t show up on my Discover statement until the next month, and I had almost a month after that to pay it back and then start the cycle all over again. I was netting about $25 every two months just for writing a couple of checks. ($25 was a bigger deal back when things were much cheaper and I was much younger). At some point Discover removed the cap on its finance charge and then it was no longer profitable.

I’m hoping it’s real. And I still think it is. But your comment “I’m thinking tomorrow’s strip will start with, “Lu-Ann! Lu-Ann!…Wake up”” has now put into my mind the idea that it COULD have been a dream. Before your comment that thought would not have crossed my mind.

But another issue pointing to the “dream” possibility is the appearance of Vale. Dreams have a way of dredging up past events and people long forgotten in teh deepest recesses of the brain, and until I saw some commenters identify him I had no idea that Vale was a past character even though I’ve been following this strip for many years. I still don’t really remember him but saw a comment that he was a student tutored by Luann in the past. I’d really like to go back and review Vale’s first appearance(s) here to refresh my memory, but, Google as I might, I wasn’t able to date or find those strips. Can anybody help? (MORDOCK?? You’ve always had the steel trap memory….can YOU direct me to the right dates????)
