    One of my brothers retired from the Navy with a 20 year pension and two master degrees. He was still young enough to get a new job and is now retired with two pensions. The military is good for some people.

    My spaniel when I’m reading, paying bills or on the computer:1) stare at me2) whine, then whine louder3) start patting my thigh, pat my thigh more, pat my thigh while whining4) begin a low growl, growl louder5) start barking with that high pitched spaniel bark turning into a howl6) he wins

    My dog is jealous of books and my Kindle. Phone calls just confuse him.

    My dog paws my arms or legs when he’s bored. He gives me the soulful eyes when I ask what he wants then gives a couple of slow, hopeful tail wags. Then he brings one of his toys to me and gives a couple of more tail wags. If I wait a minute to finish what I’m doing, he drops that toy and brings me a different one. I always cave unless I’m on the phone.
