Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for February 05, 1993

Charlene:What irks me is that this whole chaotic pre-wedding year doesn't really "count" as a year of being together with Simon, Cathy. Charlene: Why is the strength of relationships only measured by years of marriage, when the real test is in those hideous, fragile months when you're technically engaged, but are both free to walk, and don't?? Charlene: I demand relationship credit for my engagement year! Cathy: Then I should get a lifetime achievement award for all my years with Irving! Charlene: Nonsense. You're only dating. Each year together without a proposal counts as a demerit.
