Well, spade foot toads do fine underground for long periods. It doesn’t work so well for red-legged or many other frog species in serious trouble, and it’s been happening for a while. Lots of warning signs of our impact on the environment, and climate, but hey, what’s scienctific proofs when you can take “belief”, which isn’t even good horse sense.
The comic’s premise overlooks that disappearing amphibians and bats have been caused by researchers spreading contaminations, fungus and pathogens to previously pristine sites.
Various reasons for their decline, with bees they are the industrial bees that are being killed off through a combination of factors. For frogs despite laws there are still illegal dumping of toxins among other things including the spread of human beings.
While the government eases restrictions on toxin disposal, we ourselves add to the mix. We flush insect/pesticides down our house drains and via lawn runoffs in our gutters. We spray wind born pesticides. We modify crop grains to resist or even kill insects, thereby choking off the food chain for predator insects and possibly effecting so far unknown changes in our own genetic make up. We continue to drive vehicles that add pollutants to air, water, and soil. Etc, etc. The litany is endless.
To quote a famous philosopher – one now no longer with us but familiar to many – We have met the enemy, and he is us.
I wonder how many of the people that are spouting about dumping toxins use chemicals in their daily lives. Or take drugs and antibiotics and then void themselves through urination and defecation and then flushes it out to be dispersed. But it is everybody else but them that is the problem.

The causes for recent amphibian declines are many, but an emerging disease called chytridiomycosis and global climate change are thought to be the biggest threats to amphibians. Chytridiomycosis is a disease caused by the fungal chytrid pathogen Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis.
In other words “are thought” to be caused by a combination of climate change and humans introducing diseases into the amphibian environment.
Saying, “Just sayin’” doesn’t make it not true either.As for horses, they often see monsters in reflective surfaces. As for frogs, bees and those that have no control over what we do to their environment, think canary in the coal mine. If a miner ignored the death of the canary, they would find themselves dead soon after. It seems the greedy not only are happy to ignore the dead canary, they seem eager to kill them all. Somehow they believe they will be able to set aside a part of the world just for them to survive in and rule with absolute authority, perhaps even with sadistic cruelty. They ignore the fact that no such place will ultimately exist, because you can’t just dome off a part of the world to not be influenced by the rest of the world. Regardless of what sci fi and cartoons might make seem possible. Why do the ignore the facts and reality of the situation? Simple, greed and the thought of absolute power over others has made them blind to reality. That is what happens when your beliefs make you refuse facts. And no one refuses reality, as those that would treat others cruelly, for they more than anyone must justify their psychotic behavior not only to others, but to themselves.
Following the canary in the coal mine line of thought, there’s an interesting video called “Toad Skin Spells” that elucidates just why we humans should be paying attention to what happens to the frogs and toads.
