Good morning again, Vagabonds. Oh, let me re-write the comment I accidently hid: I didn’t go to the Indian Parade yesterday because I wasn’t up to dragging my rollator down 2 flights of subway stairs and I had to use it so I could sit while watching the parade.
So, instead, I explored one of my closets and found 7 pictorial calendars from the 70s and 80s: One was an Ariana Afghan Airlines calendar with beautiful photos of Afghanistan when it was a tourist destination; another had charming paintings depicting Georgian (the country) history; another was a Thai calendar with colorful folkloric paintings. One had nature photos of Israel and another had black and white photos of details from buildings in New York City.
These calendars are too precious to simply donate to thrift shops: Does anyone know how I may put them on E-Bay?
Mark, your eclipse starts when ours reaches it’s peak. We will try to do two time lapses…………one facing north showing the trees and sky to capture any stars, and the other facing south and the city to see the automatic lights go on. Don’t know how long the iPads will continue, but we will plug in the chargers so they can continue. The only problem will be the thick smoke……so the south facing shot might not show anything but smoke.
We did go out to see the eclipse this morning, right on the lake beach that is so close to us. We had eclipse glasses, and others used everything from the pinhole projector to using a colander as a projector. One guy used his binoculars as a projector, and it made the image quite a bit bigger on the paper. I took photos of all of the various effects. The colanders are really the coolest ones. Every little hole is a crescent. I also took photos of the shadows from the trees up on the road. Every little bit of light shining between the branches was a crescent. Totally cool, the whole thing. And the weather was perfect.
I fixed a huge pot roast in my slow cooker yesterday. I think we have enough leftovers for several days!
I did get to the church in Truckee yesterday. It was great! Not my home church, but awesome nonetheless.
Sat out on the patio and enjoyed nature’s show. It was about 98% here, alternated with the televised coverage. Awesome.
Rita and Jan, it sounds like you got some awesome shots of the eclipse. To many trees in the back yard for good shots. Wish I had thought about my camera for the shadow effect on the ground, all the leaves cast half-moon shadows. :)

Good morning, Vagabonds. I accidentally hit the button to hide my comments: How do I “unhide” them?
