Well that was pretty lame. Do you think I’d fall for such a weak scheme? Better come up with something better.

Several years ago, my dad had a retirement job at a very well known retailer. While working on Black Friday one year, he observed two women get into a fight after one took a TV out of the other’s shopping cart. (At least, I THINK it was a TV; sadly, my dad is no longer available to tell the story himself.) He recounted the details of what he observed numerous times, with a half-amused, half-disgusted tone.

Anyway, to get back to this strip, I guess that even if you’re one of the first 100 people into the store, your free TV isn’t safe until you get it out of your cart and into your locked car.

When I was a young sailor stationed at Mare Island California I heard that a new Star Trek memorabilia store called The Federation Outpost was opening in Berkley and that the first 100 people got autographed photos of the cast. Me and 2 of my friends decided that we’d get there early to be one of the first 100. The store opened at 9 so we were there by 6:30 and there was already a short line. About 20 minutes before the store opened a bunch of kids showed up and made their own line at the other side of the door. Nope! I went and blocked them until it was my turn to enter (they only let 10 people in at a time) and then someone else took over. The kids were not happy and a few threatened me but since I towered over them none were dumb enough to start anything. I remember I got a picture of Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura) but haven’t seen it in years.
