Taft is another one of my favorites !! In undergraduate I had an American History Prof who was a fanatic about TR. at midterm he asked us to bio a president from the era we had studied so far. Of course everyone saw brownie points in doing it on TR. I did Taft, got an A !! TR left WHT a real mess !!

A while ago, I read about presidential pets in the White House. Thomas Jefferson had a bear cub, and Andrew Jackson had a foul-mouthed parrot, but William Howard Taft had a pet cow. Her name was Pauline Wayne (I don’t know why her last name wasn’t Taft). Pauline Wayne became a celebrity in her own right. She used to appear in person (well, in cow) at agricultural fairs, where miniature bottles of her milk were sold for a quarter each.

Teddy ran and won the election in 1904. He chose not to run in 1908. He ran in 1912 as an independent but lost.

I love the range of emotion now here in Teddy’s face.
