And you've got the little trophy on your shelf! Petey: Yeah... but they spelled my name "Pevey" on the trophy. Mom: They spelled it "Pevey" on your jersey, too. That was like your secret identity! On the second day of Basic Training, they attached my name tag upside-down on three of the four uniforms I was issued. I should have seen that as an omen and gone home immediately, but I did not. It would have saved a lot of time and trouble for everyone concerned.

I had nicknames; one that I did not choose was Virginia Dare (related to a beverage at the time) because I was named Virginia D— and was likely to take a dare -even for something that was a little off the chart. Kids can be mean, but I did not let that bother me - go Pevey!
