On the news they had a bit that the number one thing Moms want is to not have to clean up after their own celebration.

You know that she was lying there in bed, pretending to be sleeping in, cringing at every sound coming from the kitchen and rehearsing her delighted, “Oh, wow!”

Man, if you have any brains in your head at all, clean the kitchen before she goes in there. Even if you put everything back in the wrong place, that’s better than leaving the cleaning for her to do. (That is assuming that you are at least a semi-competent cleaner.)

My daughter, who gets up at two at the earliest, is in charge of bacon tomorrow. I am making waffles with strawberry syrup and maple syrup. Fresh squozen orange juice. I am going to try to pick up some savory baked goods in the morning. Champagne is in the fridge. And of course I will clean up the mess!

Will I magically be able to cook if I become a mother? I’m pretty sure the kitchen would turn into ground zero if I tried cooking beyond sticking TV dinners in the microwave.

Pancake on fire? So, that’s how Crêpe Suzette was accidently invented? WATCH OUT EVERYBODY! THE MAN IS IN THE KITCHEN!!

When I was a kid, we did make Mom breakfast in bed for Mother’s Day, but not in a cooking pancakes sense. Breakfast in our family was cereal and juice on most mornings, special mornings added fruit and toast. So Brother and I would put the tray together, Dad would carry it upstairs, and Mom would eat her normal breakfast in bed. Now I find myself wondering of the low fuss breakfast in bed we did was at least in part because it was also low mess…

It’s a sweet sentiment, but I don’t believe for one minute that The Man isn’t perfectly capable of putting together some pancakes and juice without using every dish in the apartment or setting the kitchen on fire.♥

Unfortunately this is my fourth without Mom, and fifth without my grandmother (although she made it to 100). But my friend’s son died in a hit-and-run this past year, so I’m going to see if she wants to do anything.

Enough about the Hallmark holiday- Let’s celebrate the toebeans!!!

5 of my kids took hubby and me to dinner last night. We had a lovely time with fish, cake, and pictures!

I LOVE this Georgia! These are my sentiments exactly! My wife does SO much for us, between the amazing cooking EVERY single day (because it’s more affordable and healthy for us), to cleaning, to budgeting (because she’s a former economist), to homeschooling our two girls! …We could never hope to cover all that she does for us, but we do try! Thankfully this year our kitchen doesn’t look quite like this one! Ha ha!

These kitchen disaster jokes are confusing to me. Every member of my family is a very good cook except one, and she married a 5-Star chef.

As for the rest of you muth … (Cough! ;^D) … … go do something nice for your Mothers, even if all you can do is remember, and even if the memory is bittersweet.

It’s called “Mise en Place”. It uses a lot of dishes but if you do it right, everything goes more smoothly during the actual cooking and you do NOT set the kitchen on fire. The only thing more practical than Mise en Place is a sous-chef. :)

I learned everything about kitchens from the Lenny Henry series “Chef”. (Not cooking, kitchens)

Every dish in the apartment… sounds about like my mom making a simple meal. The sink is filled with pots and pans and food processor parts, etc. She didn’t used to be like that. Then she got involved with a certain set of pans, a certain diet, and a certain state (California, I don’t understand why since she had lived in California once before but California really helped change her cooking for the worst) and she has to seemingly use ever dish in the kitchen to make spagheti (?spelling), baked chicken, or soup.

So that’s where the “breakfast in bed” thing comes from.

My mom taught me how to make pancakes when I was 10 or so. From a mix, not from scratch. It included how to preheat the frying pan. Pancakes aren’t as easy as microwaving frozen stuff but when I was 10 there were no home microwaves and frozen meals were not quite on the market yet.

My mom passed in ‘98. Although my wife isn’t my mom I made an almond pastry with frozen puff pastry for her. She’s cooking the shrimp because she wants it perfect. She’s the only one who can do that.

Georgia, that’s really crap. Most men today can cook a simple meal, especially something like pancakes, very easily and can clean up without afterwards. This is rather insulting, unless your meaning is just, and only specifically, intended toward the man in the comic. But otherwise, c’mon … don’t perpetuate obnoxious and false stereotypes.

Elvis has two states: Ears laid back in disapproval; and Hedgehog mode, with every hair standing up and humming like a … um … thing that hums.
