Kind of ironic that typing is a skill every one now needs but the typewriter has gone the way 8-Track player

Typing became much easier once I no longer needed white-out. (Easier, not better.)

That must be how James Joyce wrote “Finnegan’s Wake”.

I had a ‘kids’ typewriter when I was about Patty’s age. When I could write words on it, I was given my grandmother’s portable Royal typewriter from about 1938. It’s still in my sister’s family.

Typing is a great skill to have, actually

Many years ago I was typing away at something, and my wife commented from across the room that I was a very fast typist. I didn’t tell her that half of those clicks were backspaces.

My sister gave me her typewriter when she went away to college. I was 11. I taught myself the basics sitting on the floor like Patty. To this day I love to type.

The words will come. Just keep trying.

And yet, we still have the same keyboard layout

I like typing because my handwriting has never been very good…

Maybe try using only your thumbs.
