If he wants to tease Mrs Olsen, he could hide the text book inside of the “better” book.

I got busted for reading a book behind the cover of the history text in high school. I had already read the text (of course). Fortunately for me, she allowed me to recover the book after school was out for the day, upon my promise to never bring it to school again. NO problem: I had finished it before I went to bed that night.

And no, I didn’t learn not to read the fun stuff. But I DID learn how to not get caught: I just did homework instead (not history homework).

In grade school, my son was not paying attention in class. The teacher went to the back of the room to see what he was reading, approved, and told him to keep doing it.

Caulfield is a survivor or he wouldn’t have lasted this long in her class. Plus his ‘shots’ are not malicious, as with some students. This time he’ll make the practical choice, but he also will be looking for the next opportunity to jolt her hair bun.

Once, to even the scales with a friend, who is an avid crossword solver, I got up early. I did the crossword puzzle in my paper. Put it back in the bag, swung by their house very early in the morning, and swapped my paper for hers.

Best not to humiliate your teacher, Caulfield.

She already read the book so she has time for the crossword puzzle

Imagine being a teacher having to get thru to 25 kids about a dozen different subjects, where for each such subject several of the kids are either bored because they already understand it or flummoxed because it’s all beyond them — and it’s a different set of bored and overwhelmed kids for each subject. The teacher still has to get thru to the ones in the middle as well as figuring out how to deal with the outliers.

Teaching is the second hardest, second most important, and second most rewarding job in the world!

In English class, I was caught reading. She asked me about this poem. I remember one of the other students raised his hand, but the teacher was like, no let her answer. So I read the 4 line poem and said exactly what I thought it was. It was about no matter what your age, always stop to smell the roses and see what’s around. After that, she didn’t ever call on me again. :-)

In sixth grade, my name was called in the end-of-year school assembly, but I was reading a book and didn’t hear it. When my friends nudged me to go up to the stage, I found that I had won the prize for academic achievement.

I think the logistics of reading the clues over her shoulder and filling in a duplicate puzzle on the board are greater than he estimates.
