It is true that much of the NPR reporting force is liberal. But I’ve always seen them giving time to opposite opinions a hearing, and they also hold liberals’ feet to the fire. As opposed to Faux News, which often gives no mention at all of opinions other than their own.
Now highlight the former Trump administration officials who are actively opposing their former boss. If you feature one per cartoon, your calendar is filled all the way to November.
Look up, “I’ve Been at NPR for 25 Years. Here’s How We Lost America’s Trust.”
When you do it you get link after link of people talking about Berliner’s essay. All of them way right wing and most behind pay-walls.
When you do manage to find the actual essay it’s all opinion.
Berliner talks about how many times they interviewed Adam Schiff, but never mentions how many times they interviewed, oh, let’s say, Kevin McCarthy. Oh wait! McCarthy won’t allow himself to be interviewed on NPR.
How many Republicans do you think agree to be on NPR? All I hear is cicadas, folks.
Later in the essay Berliner talks about the laptop, and how NPR didn’t follow up on laptop coverage. You know why they didn’t? Because there was no evidence that the laptop actually meant anything. Why should NPR cover a hack job on the President’s son? The only way it is news is if you cover “Republicans create lie to attack Hunter Biden”.
Berliner also attacks NPR’s coverage of racism in America, starting with George Floyd’s MURDER (which he refers to as “death”). His complaint is that NPR reported on systemic racism in America as a real thing, and not investigating it like, “Is there systemic racism in America?”
If you have to ask the question “Is there systemic racism in America” you don’t deserve to call yourself a journalist.
Read the essay. I can’t post the link but it was originally posted on a site called “The Free Press”
NPR still has the best rating of any media outlet in the US. Fox, meanwhile, is rated as entirely unreliable in terms of actually reporting true facts.
Pretty hard to get “objective news” from anywhere. News.. has been replaced with opinion pieces with credibility directly proportional to the popularity of the host.
I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here! Perhaps Kelly should spearhead the effort to sue them for lying. Can you imagine that happening to a news source?
I used to listen to NPR programs and music all the time. I finally quit after the Trump election, it got so whiny and with liberal programming changes, really turned me off, I was so disappointed.
I stopped listening to NPR when the “corporation” part of The Corporation For Public Broadcasting became so dominant. Of course, the cable news channels are worse.
Gee, do ya think there’s maybe a reason why radicalized, brainwashed MAGAs, like all the murderous dictators they adore, believe what they are told by the official propaganda organs of those same dictators and wannabe-dictators, that a free press (you know, the ones guaranteed in the Constitution?) is called:
Although we would be considered liberal by most, my husband is always complaining to me about NPR and the fact that they have become a lot more one-dimensional in the last few years. Is that because Republicans refuse to be interviewed on NPR? That probably contributes. His main gripe about NPR is that it is too political. We would prefer to hear more world news, more economic news, more diverse news and far less political coverage. The BBC hour (and Marketplace) is the best part of that station now, and BBC World is where we get most of our news. I still listen to NPR during my commute as it is still the best available news channel on the radio. Also, I love Wait, wait don’t tell me and Hidden Brain.

Why did you make me Google this, Steve Kelley? When there is a story that’s bad for my side, my attitude is always, Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me!

No such thing as “objective” at Fox. Only objectionable.

NPR does lay on the diversity pretty thick. I quit listening when they cancelled Garrison Keillor, and replaced him with Prairie Long-Time Companion.

I’ll take NPR over FOX any day of the week.

So, NPR is biased in supporting our democratic-republic rather than the dictatorship Republicans want to bring. Me too.

There are 87 editors at NPR. All are Democrats. There are no Republican editors. NPR should be defunded.
