With a kid who is not accustomed to playing outside, mom and dad need to do more than say “Play outside.” Take her to the local park, push her on the swings, catch her off the slide. Show her what it means to ‘spend time outdoors’.
There are no certain documented sources of when various “don’t let the door hit you” phases entered into American English. However, it became very popular in the 1970s, possibly originating as “don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you” via African American slang to avoid profanity.
About two years ago I got a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Source) for her home computer and mine. Never thought we’d use them, but after the last power outage they paid for themselves. She was able to save a job and I was able to solve some work I was doing. Those things are just batteries that keep charged up off of your house or office current and give you a few minutes to properly save your work and shutdown. That as a supplement to Auto-Save for spreadsheet and other work. Power came back and we were able to pick up where we had left off. And read Maria’s Day, of course.

A UPS and a battery powered WiFi hot spot kept me working during our last power outage…
