There it is… Dez wants Bets to start a Gardening Channel! ;)

Dez means well, but i don’t think this will cure Bets from her need for interaction & attention from her fans etc.

And they still need to discuss how she’ll make up the income loss she has taken..

So, who thinks Dez has a greenhouse nearby with some “special” plants inside? LOL

I’m convinced GnK are rehabbing Bets into a suitable companion for Gunther. After all these years of torment by Luann et al., he deserves one!

Gardening miyght be a bit dull for Bets

Okay, call me stupid—go ahead; I’m a big boy, I can take it. But how does one make money off of YouTube, TikTok, and what not?

Yeah she’ll find it boring and slow and nothing to be gained. Time to just cut her loose and send her on her way so that Gunther can ACTUALLY move on and find a real girlfriend who wants to spend time with him no matter what they are doing.

Bets is…having a fallow time? Should rest and let new possibilities come to mind? i can’t see this being very helpful to someone who has lost her income, isn’t sure she should continue in her relationship and is beating herself up over enjoying (mostly) positive attention.

Let’s see. Bets is the gal who didn’t want Gunther helping Tiff without taking a cut from the profits. How likely is it that she will create and maintain a non-profit platform?

The good part about starting a gardening blog is you really don’t have to know much about gardening if you wear the right thing (check out Teca Thompson if you don’t believe me.

Dez is trying to “influence” Bets who is not having it; but wait till Dez gets to the part about how much $ she makes which may turn out to be on par with what Bets was pulling in as an influencer on SM.

So is this the Bets strip? I mean this is dragging a bit.

Yes, this is mind-numbing.

Dez is just looking for free garden labor.

This arc really seems to be bringing out the trolls and trollish instincts in people.

I love Dez, but I can’t see gardening as something that could become Bets’ new passion. It seems totally out of her interest. Maybe it will be a surprise and she’ll become passionate about gardening like Nancy, but I’m hoping more and more that Tiffany will be the one able to help her find a new way. Probably thanks to some marketing project they’ll do together.

Bets has a void where her channel & fans used to be & is being shown a place where energy, thought & patience can be used to create life (and food).Maybe… personally I am not a fan of pulling weeds….

I’ve always wondered, if Bets was really making all that money, why did they buy that beater van, instead of a brand-new fancy one? Why is she living at the dorm with roommates, instead of her own private room or apartment on campus and why was she so impressed with Tiff’s home?

Is this the garden where Dez grows the ingredients of her “special” brownies?

Well, h**l, it’s a metaphor. This being 2024 and for a second I though this was going to be a little like The Sopranos. “There was an accident… bada bing.”

Dez once tried “garden therapy” with Tiffany and it didn’t Work. (Hey Dez? Why don’t you try it on Stef as she truly needs the “help?”)

On a lighter note, whenever I see Dez in her garden, I’m reminded of the song “The Wildwood Weed.”

Perhaps Bets’ idea of a garden is more accurately described in the Song of Solomon.

Dez is either suggesting Betz gets plowed and filled with seed, or if she doesn’t stop her whining, she’ll get herself planted there!

What’s mind numbing is how this story is taking so long to actually get anywhere.

Bets doesn’t look impressed.

Gardening is a great activity, everybody should do some, at least when they are young. Great therapy, physical lessons in philosophy, fresh air and sunshine, physical activity, delayed gratification and a reward at the end.

Dez just keeps trying to get her friends to work in her garden but she would do a lot better if she just asked for help instead of spewing all her earth mother bs. Her real intention is so obvious. Just like when she tried to get Tiffany to help her.

This whole storyline is mind-numbing.

Jason Allen nailed it eight hours ago. Once Bets ripped out the weeds of her own personal garden, that resource became available to nurture any number of more healthy plants. The trick is to have enough patience to wait for the right “seeds” to come along. This storyline has nothing to do with gardening, per se.

This is a bit tricky to interpret, for me at least, because of the conundrum of whether its the metaphor itself that is the lyrical point, or something else. If its looked at metaphorically then to me its clear that Dez is offering the cultivation of the new Spring garden as inspiring to Bets in helping her decide her path forward. The actual act is the proximate cause of her “patching” up her confused soul. However, I think its the idea itself. If Bets becomes a gardening influencer, for the 21st century, Gen Z, neophyte, it satisfies her need for affirmation, revenue loss, leaving time and energy for her relationship with her nerd lover. Plus its climate friendly. Oh wait, doing it requires her to work and get her hands dirty. Hmmm.

I would’ve walked away from Bets for that rude comment alone. “Ok, go back to begging for approval from strangers who have already forgotten you. Sorry I offered to be nice.”

What a waste of time…..

Dez is the good and wise one in the coed group. All of our lives should be a garden waiting for seed.

It’s a good one too! Rotating the crops to ensure good soil would be an even better one. Some seeds are deeper and take longer to sprout. The ones that sprout too soon often fail to take root and die.

Don’t forget the healthful property of the happy microbes in the soil.

I don’t have time to read all the comments. Did anyone figure out that the garden is a metaphor for Bet’s life? Bez isn’t trying to get Bets to start a garden!!

It’s a metaphor for life. I do not think Bets mind works that way. They say when the student is ready, the teacher will come. So maybe Bets has a chance at opening her eyes and perceive her life in a new way.

Maybe you can learn something Bet’s from Dez “mind numbing metaphors”.

This is a comic strip. I like it. I like the characters, some more than others (think Ann Eiffel), but she gets a funny comeuppance once in a while. I am especially enjoying the whole college crowd, even Stef. They all need some maturation, but that’s life. Their stories are our stories long ago. I simply do not grok all the trolling, the outraged indifference, the “nothing-to-see-here-move-along” attitude in these comments. I read the strip because I enjoy it. Once in a while, I add a strip, read it for a time, decide it’s not for me, and remove it from my list. I bet I know what Dez would say about all the complaining; she’d say it in her inimitable, kind, and gentle way, but she’d make it clear: If you don’t like it, why read it?

I get what Dez is trying to impute into Betts. It’s an apt analogy, if one is receptive.

Yes, it’s a metaphor—get to work and make something of your life. Stop being so shallow. Grow where you’re planted. What am I saying? Narcissists never listen or have any sense of needing improvement. I hope Gunther sees the light soon and sets her free.
