Let me guess: it’s Trump and the Republicans’ fault.

Parents, it’s time for you to step up. Quit blaming the teachers.

More like legislators that don’t value teachers or properly fund schools

    Let me guess.

    It’s all Obama’s fault.

    No wait…it’s all Hilary’s fault.

No, wait again…it’s all Biden’s fault.

Wait wait don’t tell me. It is the fault of everyone else except the GOPQ. because the promised land hasn’t trickled down completely.

In Oklahoma, Walters is leading the state school system to the bottom. As did Janet Barresi.

I have met with my state legislators many times. I always stress how they need to reform our attendance policy.

    But they won’t.

Why? Because I live in a Deep Red state and they are trying to destroy public education and replace it with private schools. They’re more interested in promoting home schooling than keeping kids in public schools.

The voucher and charter school concepts are a thinly disguised segregationist policy. Those that can pay can have their children educated in the rightest, whitest schools.

Last year I taught a trades class in an arrangement where I was provided by a local community college but the students were still in high school. On the first day of class, and several times throughout the semester, students were told that attendance counted towards their grade. But since this class was the first one of their day, and on the community college campus instead of the high school campus, some students didn’t take their attendance very seriously…

Had one student who only attended one third of the classes. Missed all of the exams. Didn’t turn in any homework assignments, and due to poor attendance only finished about half of his lab assignments. Was surprised that he failed the class.

He sicced his parents on the high school, but since this was a college course that route didn’t work… so they tried to intimidate the college. That worked – Daddy is a lawyer. College told me that they were going to give the kid a passing grade – a “B” no less. I quit signing up to teach those classes due to that, and as far as I know that program has ceased.

Gotta wonder what the attendance rate is in China, or any other country that’s planning on eatin’ our lunches.
