Yes! This is how a representative democracy should work, it is the bottom line meaning of the phrases like “we the people” and “all power comes from the people”. Policy makers, of any color, should fear the voters. Current issues might warrant the choice of “pro-choice” on the sign but it could really be any issue that might alienate the voters from the policy makers.

Unfortunately money muddles this relation and there are repercussions. There is a new ‘bottom line’ in town and it doesn’t play nice. It doesn’t mind wielding its own kind of power and democracy is mostly looked upon as an interesting idea. ‘We the mice’ sure must use the power that the vote gives us but we also have to be aware of the other creatures stomping all around us. Be vigilant, not fearful.
