Pickling things always makes them taste good. I used to pickle all sorts of veggies like cukes, green tomatoes, peppers, celery, cauliflower, carrots etc. Usually the crunchy ones are best for pickling. YUM!
My Nana use to pickle things, but only sweet. Mostly traditional small cukes. She did also make Bread and Butter Pickles that were great. I aquired a taste for dill later in life. Ah the memories…
I love the wording (delicious cliche, pickle all of the things) AND the expressions (esp Dans eyebrows and thoughtful frown as he looks around consideringly, but also the dubiousness/pleased satisfaction combo). Perfect!
There’s a Southern relish/condiment called “Chow chow”. My dad gets the hot kind, so I’ve never tried it. But, it usually contains a mix of cabbage, onion, bell peppers, and sometimes tomatoes (the recipe varies by family!) Of course, as a child, it was the name that was most attractive. :D

It can be addictive. As is making extracts, and wine. Start planning the root cellar, now. Make it cozy so you can use it for a storm shelter
